ATHLETICS
The philosophy of Laurens Academy Athletics is built upon the foundation of Laurens Academy’s mission and value statements. Competitive athletics utilizes sports as a way for scholar athletes to further learn discipline, integrity, work ethic, sportsmanship, respect and achievement. Scholar athletes are first and foremost students. Academic achievement and personal health will never be compromised for the purpose of athletic competition. DIRECTOR
Travis Plowden is entering his 11th year at Laurens Academy and this will be his 8th as Athletic Director. He is a 2005 graduate of North Greenville University with a degree in history. The first three years of his coaching career were spent at Wardlaw Academy. In 2008 he made the move to Laurens and continued his career at LA. Coach Plowden has been an assistant coach in many sports but has focused mostly on basketball and golf. Since 2012 he has been the varsity boy’s basketball head coach. He teaches several history classes during the day and he is as passionate in the classroom as he is on the court.
