International Program

Laurens Academy is a SACS accredited college preparatory school in a non-denominational Christian environment. Our curriculum offers traditional classroom instruction as well as opportunities on and off campus to provide enrichment for all students. We also offer an extensive dual-enrollment curriculum for qualified high school juniors and seniors through the University of South Carolina allowing students to graduate with over 30 hours of college credit on a University of South Carolina transcript. Our International Program hosts an average of 12 high school students per year representing countries such as: China, Germany, France, Denmark, Italy, Thailand, Mexico, South Korea and Spain. Laurens Academy is located in the south east region of the United States in rural Laurens, South Carolina. Our location is convenient to international airports in Greenville, SC, Charlotte, NC, and Atlanta, GA. We are a short distance from the Appalachian Mountains and the east coast beaches. South Carolina is home to 61 colleges and universities including: Clemson University, a “Top 25 University” in the US, boasting a nationally ranked Engineering Program; the University of South Carolina, home of the Darla Moore School of Business, currently ranked as the number one International Business School in the nation; and Presbyterian College, located in Laurens County, a top liberal arts college and home of a Confucius Institute.

The Laurens Academy International House is a 4,000 square foot home with 10 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. The International House is run like a large American family. Each student will have the responsibility of taking care of their own bedroom and doing their own laundry. Other household chores will be divided between the students. The host family will involve the students in meal planning, grocery shopping and cooking. International nights will give the students a chance to cook their native foods for their new friends and family. Eating out will give students the opportunity to eat different kinds  of food.  The area has several Asian, Mexican and Italian restaurants, as well as the familiar American restaurants all within walking distance.

The Laurens Academy International Program allows students to receive the full American experience educationally and culturally. Our college preparatory curriculum is designed to meet and exceed the requirements for an American high school diploma as well as college entrance. International students will participate in the ESL program where they will obtain a better understanding of the English language and gain preparation for the SAT, ACT and TOEFL. Qualifying students may take dual-enrollment college courses and receive college credit while in high school. Students who meet curriculum requirements will be allowed to be participate in graduation and awarded an American high school diploma.
