Biology students made models of DNA’s double helix using twizzlers and gummies. They used a simulated code to construct the replica.
To enrich their study of genetics, 7th graders completed a DNA extraction lab using peas. The lab was conducted aboard the Greenwood Genetic Center’s mobile lab.
Senior Cassie Adair was crowned 2015 Homecoming Queen during Homecoming festivities on Friday, Oct. 23rd. Class princesses were Cassidy Crowder – Senior Class, Sara Spoone- Junior Class, Ashley Magda – Sophomore Class, and Kerington Armstrong- Freshman Class.
Biology students recently tested the effect of temperature upon enzyme activity. They used beef liver and hydrogen peroxide and exposed them to varying temperatures to determine the level of enzyme activity under differing conditions.
LA Students in 7th and 8th grades honored veterans by attending a Veteran’s Day celebration hosted by the City of Laurens on Tuesday, November 11th. The celebration was held at the Laurens Amphitheater. Local dignitaries and citizens paid tribute to our veterans and thanked them for their sacrifices for our country.
The Mobile Genetics Lab known as the “gene machine” visited Laurens Academy on Tuesday, November 4th. LA juniors and sophomores toured the Winnsboro Water Treatment Facility on Wednesday, October 29th. They learned about water treatment, the chemical reactions that occur in the treatment process, and about job opportunities available in the field of environmental engineering.
