Battle of The Books

This is Laurens Academy’s second year participating in the Battle of the Books. On November 30th. ten elementary students travelled to Sumter Academy to compete in the state tournament. To prepare for this, students read twenty books from SCISA’s reading list. The students stayed after school to study together and to be quizzed. They had to answer questions about the books’ title, author, and context. Overall, they seemed to enjoy the experience and also worked together to build a dynamic team. Some have already started preparing for next years competition. Mrs. Burrows said “I’m very proud of these students. They have put in a lot of hard work. They made it to state this year, and they will bring home the trophy next year!”

The fifth graders who participated were Olivia Huck, William O’Shields, Madison Sherman, Emily Suttles, and Stuti Patel. The fourth graders who participated were Tristan Bates, Emma Grace Nelson, Caleb Howard, and Abby Howard. The third grader who participate was Willow Campbell.
