Eighth Graders Tour Congaree National Park

To enhance their understanding of the role rivers play in shaping our land, eighth graders visited Congaree National Park. The park is noted for its national champion trees and biodiversity, as well as being the largest tract of old growth floodplain forest in the continental US.

HSSR Basketball Honorees

Shooters Garner Accolades

Congratulations to senior shooter Cassidy Crowder for winning a $1000 scholarship from the Hampton Wildlife fund at the April 29th shoot in Camden. Juniors Carmen McGee and Jack Kerber were named to the South Carolina Youth Shooting Federation’s All-State team.

Kerber Named 4H-er of the Year

Julia Kerber was recently named Jr. 4H-er of the Year for Laurens County. Economic Expertise

LA Alumni, Hannah Burrows Mabry (Class of 2005), recently visited third and sixth grade classes as part of the Wells Fargo Education Program. Mrs. Mabry spoke to students about the difference between “wants and needs” and the importance of saving money.   Mrs. Mabry serves as a Personal Banker at the Clinton Wells Fargo branch.

5th Graders Complete D.A.R.E. Program

LA fifth graders recently completed the D.A.R.E. Program conducted by the Laurens County Sheriff’s Department. Founded in 1983, D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) is an education program that gives students the skills they need to avoid involvement in drugs, gangs, and violence. LA Dancers Shine at Local Competition

Encore DCS recently held a regional dance competition at Furman University. There were nineteen dance companies from SC, NC, Georgia and Tennessee showing off their talents. Sixth Graders Construct Rockets

As part of their study of Newton’s Laws of Motion, sixth graders constructed air rockets using balloons. Students raced their creations to demonstrate Newton’s 3rd law of motion. Winners of the race were Sara Grace Natiello, Dimitri Wells, and Kyle Thompson.

Spring Auction – March 12th

Ladies Scholastic Shooting Team Takes State Runner-up Title

Congratulations to LA’s lady senior varsity scholastic shooters for taking home the SCISA State Championship Runner Up trophy in this weekend’s shoot in Edgefield. The ladies senior varsity trio is comprised of senior Cassidy Crowder, junior Carmen McGee and freshman Audrey Thompson.
